A collective where we re-root ourselves with the land

The Little Jamaica Stewardship Project (LJSP) seeks to re-connect the land with community. Located in the Little Jamaica neighbourhood, on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinabek, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, LJSP believes in the capacity of community to respond directly to our own needs.
The main goal of this project is to foster kinship in our neighbourhood. As residents of Tkaronto, we are often disconnected from land, whether this be through ongoing developments, finding ourselves in food desserts, or simply not having the time to immerse ourselves in nature.
There is immense power in coming together, and bringing with us our ancestral knowledge and ideas. The LJSP brings together Afro-diasporic cultural traditions and radical practice of collective care to support the growth of self-determined communities.
Right now, LJSP is working on a series of workshops called Collective Keepers, an archival and artist program focused on the intersection of activism and stewardship in the Little Jamaican area, and Toronto more broadly.
We will have more information on upcoming workshops soon!
